Highlands Ranch's 2026 holiday season is planned by two public bodies, the Highlands Ranch Community Association and the Highlands Ranch Metro District. Their calendar runs from Monday, Nov. 9 through Saturday, Dec. 19, and almost every stop is a community building. A recreation center, the public library, a park, the Mansion. The big holiday finale is one free afternoon at Town Center on Dec. 12.
That changes how you plan. Three events sell tickets through Eventbrite. Two have posted prices under $35 after fees, and the third, the Nutcracker, is already showing sold out. The big holiday days are free. The trick is knowing which free events need a parking plan.
The HRCA and the Metro District split the season between them. They don't share one master calendar, so the dates live on two websites: hrcaonline.org and highlandsranch.org. Here's where it all happens:
Because the organizers run community programs year-round, the season opens with Veterans Day week.
The first event is a sale. On Monday, Nov. 9, the HRCA Pottery Sale fills the Southridge Recreation Center lobby from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Everything on the tables was made by students in HRCA classes, and the sale takes credit cards. It's the earliest chance this season to buy gifts made in Highlands Ranch, and it runs during work hours on a Monday. Plan around that.
That evening, the action moves to the Mansion. The HRCA's Veterans Concert runs 6:30 to 8 p.m., with doors at 6. The listed price is $30. At the Eventbrite checkout it comes to $33.37, including a $3.37 fee. It's the first of the season's ticketed events.
Two days later, on Wednesday, Nov. 11, the Metro District hosts its own Veterans Day Celebration at the Highlands Ranch library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The program includes speaker Debra Hunt, the Highlands Ranch Concert Band, a color guard and a dessert reception. These are two separate events by two separate organizers, not one event listed twice. If you want both a concert and a ceremony, you can do Monday and Wednesday.
On Saturday, Nov. 14, from 8 a.m. to noon, the Metro District runs its Yard Waste Composting and Tree Recycling Drop-Off in the center parking lot at Redstone Park. It's free for Highlands Ranch residents, and free self-serve mulch is available on site.
Mid-November is when the last leaves come down and the garden beds get put away. The same district that hosts the Mansion's Santa visit also takes the bags you rake up the weekend before Thanksgiving. If your trunk is full on the 14th, empty it at Redstone Park and fill it back up with mulch for spring.
After the drop-off, Southridge Recreation Center becomes the main stage for two weeks.
International Youth Ballet brings Nutcracker Highlights to Southridge for four one-hour family shows. Every child gets a gift to take home.
Each show lasts an hour, so it fits around a nap, an early dinner or a cold Sunday afternoon. Tickets are sold through an Eventbrite box on the HRCA event page, which already flags high demand and shows sold out, so check there before you plan on going.
On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the same building hosts the HRCA's Holiday Jazz Music night, "Swingin' the Holidays," from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with doors at 6. The listed price is $25, or $28.06 at checkout with a $3.06 fee. Add the Veterans Concert, and the season's two priced evenings come to $61.43 for one adult, fees included.
Saturday, Dec. 5 is the busiest day of the season, and the one where logistics matter most. The Metro District's Holiday Celebration at the Mansion runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the activities are free. The district lists horse-drawn hayrides, visits with Santa, face painting, school choirs, holiday story times, reindeer games on the lawn and booth vendors. Local dancers will also perform selections from the Nutcracker. Volunteer docents lead self-guided Mansion tours, and food trucks sell food and drinks.
There's no general parking at the Mansion that day. From the Metro District's event listing:
"Shuttle buses will take guests to the Mansion from the west lot (student parking lot) at Mountain Vista High School beginning at 9:30 a.m. Parking at the Mansion will not be available, except for vehicles with handicapped placards or license plates."
So the event starts in a high school parking lot. If you want hayrides or Santa before the lines build, aim for the first shuttles at 9:30. All vendor spots are already taken, and the district is keeping a waitlist. If you went to the Nutcracker at Southridge in November, the Mansion has a short encore of it on the lawn-and-hayride day.
The biggest holiday event happens at a shopping center, and it's still the HRCA running the show. Hometown Holiday takes over Highlands Ranch Town Center, 9315 Dorchester St., on Saturday, Dec. 12 from noon to 5 p.m. It's free and open to the public. The HRCA lists photos with Santa, a holiday gift market, live music, local food trucks, a cash bar where IDs are checked, hot cocoa for kids, holiday games and a lighting ceremony. The event is entirely outdoors and will be canceled only for severe weather. Free parking is nearby, and Link on Demand transportation is available.
That address is also home to the newest food business on this calendar. Joy Batch Cookies & Coffee opened Oct. 9 at 9315 Dorchester St., Unit 109, near South Broadway, DougCo Social reported. Owner Sarah Carlson used to run Quinnie's Cookies and rebranded when she moved into this storefront. The shop sells cookies, coffee and curated gifts.
Plan around the clock. As of DougCo Social's report, Joy Batch was open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Coffee hour starts at 9 with a limited selection, and the full cookie case comes out at 10. Hometown Holiday starts at noon, so under those hours the shop and the event overlap for three hours. If cookies are part of your plan for the 12th, go early. Hours can change before December, so check before you go.
For coffee before a Southridge matinee or a Mansion morning, Highlands Ranch got another option this fall. Black Rock Coffee Bar opened its second Highlands Ranch shop at 9401 S University Blvd. on Monday, Sept. 14, according to DougCo Social. It serves coffee and its customizable Fuel energy drinks.
The last date belongs to the HRCA's Backcountry calendar, which lists a Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 19. Before then, the first Mansion shuttle leaves Mountain Vista High School at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 5.
